A new chapter!
Time are changing! with breaking now being included in the 2024 Paris Olympics for the first time a dance is now also a sport and featured at the biggest sporting event in the world. This is a wonderful development bringing the sports world, the entertainment world and the dance scene together as one.
I predict this development will bring a lot of opportunities for everyone involved. Bringing breaking, a dance style that started as a underground dance style in the 1970s, to a global platform never seen before.
it also dawns a new era for sport. As societies changes, sports changes with it. A sport is now also something that can be creative and can be scored subjectively. In breaking the "how" is more important then the "what". That means that which moves you do isn’t the defining factor; its how you do them.
This means also a big change for entertainment. Breaking is now a sport, a dance, an art and a form of entertainment. Combinations of these have been seen before. A martials arts demonstration, dance performance or a circus act exist but this time its all three. With breaking being all three the possibilities for breaking are endless. With breaking being an art it can be displayed in theatre, with breaking being a sport not only is it a perfect sporting event by itself its also perfect as a halftime show and finally with breaking being a dance, it will look perfect in a commercial, music video or stage production
A new generation of breakers
With breaking being so versatile that also means a new generation of breakers has stood up. Breakers that not only perform well in the competitions but also are able to translate their skills on stage or on set. Breakers who are capable of performing other dance style besides breaking to be able to perform a dance show at the highest standard.
